Madhuri has very innovatively bridged the gap between science and information technology. The product clearly reflects her knowledge and expertise in the area , With the use of in memory applications the challenges associated with processing vast amount of data has also been overcome.

I had a chance to meet with Madhuri and being an IT professional myself, I was impressed how technology can be leveraged to solve important problems in healthcare. It requires a lot of tech acumen to solve healthcare problems and simplify them.

I had the pleasure of working with Madhuri Gandikota this summer and was greatly impressed with her passion and drive to improve health care delivery. Her company, Tapasvi, is exploring ways to improve health care and reduce disparities by providing both evidence-based decision making tools and analysis of aggregate health data to health care providers. In addition, the DesignerData platform allows informative visualizations of population health data for policy makers who seek to understand the burden of disease and disease risk factors. These kind of solutions are desperately needed in our health care system.
DesignerData is a good solution to understand the trends of the population at risk. It seems as a good way to manage vital information of healthcare providers, therefore the hospitals might be able to take decisions based in evidence. I think another positive aspect is the fact that it can demonstrate improved obesity related outcomes. This is vital to the CEOs of big hospitals because is part of the decision making process, so if they see improved outcomes, they might decide to spend in obesity related interventions.
Some suggestions: I think it should also include other factors associated with obesity and in general with NCDs, such as Physical activity and eating habits. I also, would recommend investing in the design of the interface, so it can be more “intuitive” and “sexy” for the potential clients (in this case CEOs of hospitals).
I think this is a tool to understand the statistics of obesity in a certain region/state. It might be very helpful for ministries of health and government institutions. A good question would be, how many of the other dependencies from the governments benefit from using the tool? If there a way to link the data directly (or export it) to other systems? If these questions are addressed, it would be great one.
